TEDtalks has selected two Australians to speak at the TED2013 conference in California later this month.

ABC science presenter Adam Spencer and RMIT University industrial design lecturer and PhD candidate, Leyla Acaroglu have been selected to attend the conference themed The Young. The Wise. The Undiscovered.

The curators toured 14 countries and shortlisted 300 talks from thousands of entries.

Acaroglu auditioned with a talk on 'uncovering environmental folklore through life cycle thinking' which is her area of interest being an industrial design lecturer and PhD candidate who is also a director of Eco Innovators.

“By breaking down environmental folklore and showing the exact lifecycle of everyday items, we are able to establish ground-breaking sustainability practices that can be applied to everyday design projects,” she said.

Spencer and Acaroglu will join an explorer, a beat boxer, a renegade gardener, a roboticist, a photo journalist, Bono, and ethicist Peter Singer along with more than 70 other speakers at the TEDtalks event.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design and offers a range of short talks on a range of topics from the website.
