A new gas-boosted solar water heater has been launched by Vulcan.

The Vulcan VSi160 features a ‘drain back’ heat exchange technology which eliminates any risk that the solar collector will freeze or get too hot, even when the power is out.

The technology means that the rooftop collector, which would normally be full of glycol, empties during extreme cold and hot conditions and overnight for frost protection, while the gas booster ensures the system delivers hot water regardless of the weather.

The VSi160 has been designed with a 160 litre square tank design, combined with a 2 sqm roof-mounted collector.

Other features include inline boosting, enabling 100 per cent of the tank capacity for solar gain and an internally concealed factory-fitted controller and pump. The product comes with a five-year warranty.

Vulcan is a Rheem Australia brand.
