Two house and land packages based on the award-winning K1 Display Home in Kununurra, Western Australia, will be sold in coming weeks through an online registration of interest.
The K1 won LandCorp’s Regional Environmental Affordable Living (REAL) Challenge, Kimberley division, which was judged by public voting.
It was designed by SIA Architects and built by Northern Aspect Construction and is seen as a new alternative in architecturally designed modular housing for people in the region.
Key features include large areas of indoor and outdoor living all under the same roof, capitalising on the south-east and north-west cooling breezes while shielding from the strong desert north-eastern breezes. It also uses sophisticated ventilation to maximise breeze flow.
Other features include guaranteed termite resilient timber framing and Hebel Power Floor systems, providing thermal mass, which enables greater comfort and energy efficiency benefits.
The competition sought to encourage industry to work with the State Government to provide climate-responsive, efficient and comfortable housing designs for regional Western Australia at price points that remained affordable.
Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said: “These homes will provide sustainable environmental design without compromising comfort or affordability and it is exciting to offer them to the market.”
Both house and land packages are priced at $545,889 and successful registrations will be selected by random draw under probity auditor supervision.
The two 610sqm lots are located at Lakeside Park, Kununurra and all purchasers must occupy the homes for a minimum of two years from the date of practical completion.
Registrations will begin on Thursday, February 17, 2011.
