The NSW Government is seeking proposals from landscape architects, architects and urban design professionals for the development of the Barangaroo Headland Park and public domain. The Barangaroo Delivery Authority today launched the official call for submissions relating to the public domain area, following changes to the master plan. The authority changed the concept plan in September to include a "natural headland and large northern cove". The overriding plan relates to the creation of a grand harbour park and the formation of three key precincts linked by two coves within Barangaroo. The three distinct precincts are the Headland Park and Northern Cove, a central public domain and the southern cove public domain. The authorityhas lodged the changes with the NSW Department of Planning, but no verdict has been given as yet by the department. The call for submissions comes only a day after the final two contenders, Lend Lease and Brookfield Multiplex, made their final presentations for the first stage of the Barangaroo development. Commenting on the applicants, CEO of the authority, John Tabart, said: "It’s great to see such substantial and comprehensive proposals delivered on schedule. The authority congratulates both proponents on their immense effort to meet the requirements of the interactive bid process. Both bids will now undergo an extensive evaluation process, which will assess each proposal against key criteria."A Design Excellence Review Panel has been appointed by the minister for planning, Kristina Keneally, to oversee the appointment process, and will have an ongoing role with the design and delivery of the public domain. The initial request is part of a single stage procurement process, with potential for multiple phases within the stage. Proposal will be assessed against a number of criteria including capability, design excellence, sustainability and commercial proposal. No visual design layouts or schematics are required as part of the initial request process. To register for the request process, respondents are to complete the electronic registration form on the website www.barangaroo.com. A non-refundable fee of $250 is payable by registrants upon registration. Applications close at 2pm on December 18.
