RMIT University has officially opened its latest edition to Melbourne, as part of the city’s 1200 Buildings Program.
Green Brain at the corner of Swanston and La Trobe streets has been retrofitted, complete with a new fifth floor and rooftop canopy resembling a green brain. Features include water harvesting, an air delivery system, a thermal envelope and energy efficient lighting.
The eye-catching canopy is designed by Ashton Raggatt McDougall (ARM), the architects responsible for the award-winning redesign of neighbouring Storey Hall in 1995.
RMIT University has retrofitted four buildings as part of the City of Melbourne’s 1200 Buildings Program aimed at reducing energy and water use and carbon emissions.
The university is also constructing two new buildings and assessing 50 existing buildings for possible future inclusion in the program.
