This beautiful private weekend residence in the mountains at Kawakami-mura, Minamisaku-gun, Nagano, was designed as a retreat for Tokyo fashion designer Setsumasa Kobayashi.
Kobayashi’s spring 2009 collection was called Mountain Research after the hidden home where she and her team sketched up most of the fashion ideas.
Life is centred on the outdoors, with the kitchen, storage, bath and wood shelter partially exposed. The yellow domes are permanent tents created by North Face.
The architect, Shin Ohori, also runs Cow Books, which sells out of print books focusing on 60s and 70s social movements, progressive politics and the Beat Generation.
