Architects 3XN have unveiled a new landmark and Scandinavia's largest hotel, the steep-leaning towers designed to redefine the Copenhagen skyline.
The architects designed the Bella Sky Hotel with two towers reaching up 76.5 meters, and leaning out at an amazing 15 degrees in each direction. This results in a sculptural building unique in Copenhagen.
The furnishings are all natural, the lobby is covered in a huge living wall, and a huge LED centerpiece subtly changes the inside light to mimic the shifting Danish sky.
"We have knowingly worked towards designing a building unlike anything else in Copenhagen - and we did that because Ørestad, which is a new city neighbourhood is also unlike any other place in Copenhagen.
"Bella Sky is designed specifically to reflect the identity of Ørestad, contributing in a positive manner,’ says Kim Herforth Nielsen, Principal and Founder of 3XN."
The leaning towers were designed with purpose, says Nielsen: “Some of the best views can be found in Ørestad, and therefore it was important to find an architectural solution which allows views from nearly every room says Kim Herforth Nielsen.
“Of course, the most fantastic view of all is from the Hotel’s Skybar which is open to the public!”
The project also has received publicity for being the the first hotel in Europe with an entire floor dedicated to women. The floor has been named Bella Donna and is only accessible with women’s keycards.
The Comwell Bella Sky Hotel was opened May 16th by politicians, including the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen.
