Gerard Smith of Gerard Smith Design has picked up the Building Designers Association Australia 2018 Design Excellence Award for his Panorama House design.
The Panorama House stood out because it seamlessly incorporated energy-efficient and sustainable building design elements throughout the entire home, whilst still looking contemporary and refined.
Tasked with creating a comfortable family home that maximises the views of the magnificent hinterland vista, Smith designed an open plan kitchen with two living areas and a dining zone with direct access to generous alfresco areas.
The home consists of four bedrooms, an office, a lap pool and a generous play area for the kids.
Nestled in a beautifully quiet and rural neighborhood, the family wanted the exterior to subtly blend in and appear as if it were a single-story home.
Gerard Smith created this single-split story design with a simple layout in order to meet the brief, while also featuring panoramic views from the hinterland and up to the coastal beaches in the east.
The home is also completely self-sufficient all year round due to the installation of passive solar and sustainable designs into the home.
