It has been confirmed that Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas will curate the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale. Appointed director of the 14th international exhibition, the responsibility involves curating a central show in the Corderie dell'Arsenale, as well as co-coordinating the national pavilions at the sprawling biennial extravaganza.

Architecture critic Ada Louise Huxtable (1921 – 2013) has passed away at the age of 91, marking the end of a legendary career that reinvented architectural criticism and influenced the development of American cities.

In the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing, a project called Meiquan 22nd Century is being built that observers say is a pirated copy of Zaha Hadid's Wangjing Soho complex design, which is under construction and due to be completed in 2014.

Baghdad, Iraq

Assemblage has succeeded against a prestigious shortlist of architects in an international competition for the new Iraqi parliament complex in Baghdad. The $1Bn USD project challenged contestants to design a new, large scale complex amidst the remnants of a partially built super mosque planned by Saddam Hussein.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates 

DAMAC Properties has announced its first major new product launch since 2008, with 295 premium serviced hotel apartments in the Burj Area. ‘The Distinction’ will be a 195m-high, 53-storey tower overlooking the platinum real estate in the heart of Dubai. The Distinction has been designed by architects ZAS with the interiors being undertaken by WA International.
