A 1960s soccer stadium has become the first of several in Brazil to be equipped with a solar-powered roof in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Mineirão Stadium has been fitted with a 1.4MW solar array, which will see energy fed back into the grid rather than being used directly by the stadium.

Architect Frank Gehry has voiced concerns that the new Los Angeles subway, scheduled for construction in two to three years, may disturb concerts in his famous Disney Hall. Previous testing suggested there would be no audible impact on Disney Hall, but Gehry has now called for this to be reviewed.

An MC Escher-esque set of wooden staircases is being installed by architecture firm dRMM outside St Paul's Cathedral to mark London Design Festival 2013. The Endless Stair design consists of 44m3 of tulipwood arranged into 20 interlocking staircases.

Barwa Real Estate has unveiled plans to construct a $5.5 billion artificial island off the coast of Doha, Qatar. The Oryx Island will feature five floating hotels that will house up to 25,000 soccer fans for the World Cup in 2022, high-end villas, restaurants, stores, hotels and residential towers.

The Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum: Scotland’s Museum of Transport and Travel, has been named European Museum of the Year (EMYA) at a ceremony in Belgium. The EMYA 2013 Judging Panel agreed unanimously that the museum fulfills the EMYA criteria of 'public quality' at the highest level.
