It has been announced that the forthcoming National Stadium of Japan by Zaha Hadid, will act as a major venue for athletic events, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

SHoP Architects has revealed its design for a 411 metre skyscraper in Manhattan on a plot that is just 13 metres wide. The building would be approximately 30 metres taller than the Empire State Building and would feature a stepped facade facing the street.

Lisbon, Portugal

The Aga Khan Awards for Architecture program has announced the 2013 winners at a ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal. An Islamic cemetery in Austria and a restored market hall in Iran are among the five winners of the US$1 million prize. The award is given every three years to recognise buildings that positively affect communities in which Muslims have a significant presence.

Seoul, South Korea

GDS Architects has been granted the green light to begin construction on the new ‘Tower Infinity’, which will reach a height of 450 meters, placing it among the top 10 tallest buildings in the world. Designed for a location near the Incheon International Airport, Tower Infinity will also have the distinction of being 'invisible', through the use of optical illusions and lighting.
