A museum proposed by Star Wars creator George Lucas to showcase visual storytelling and house his art collection is one of three development projects being considered for a plot of park land at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. If his design is chosen, Lucas intends to finance the project himself.

Kiruna, Sweden

The design entry 'The Crystal' by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Tema Landscape Architects Sweden, WSP Engineers Sweden and UiWE Cultural Designers has scored the first prize in the international competition for the new city hall building in Kiruna, Sweden's northernmost city. The building’s shape is inspired by the enormous concentration of iron ore found in the area's underground.

New York, United States

The former TWA Terminal designed by architect Eero Saarinen at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York is set to be converted into a hotel and conference centre. Developer and hotel owner André Balazs plans to transform the unoccupied 1960s structure, into a mix of restaurants, bars, a flight museum and a spa and fitness centre.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Norm Architect’s Höst restaurant in Denmark has taken out the prize for ‘Best Restaurant’ in the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards 2013. The competition, now in its fifth cycle, receives entries from the best architects, designers and hospitality operators in the UK and worldwide. Foster + Partners took out the ‘Best Bar’ award for their Atrium Champagne Bar in London.

Bonn, Germany

BARCODE Architects has been selected as a finalist for the design competition for the new headquarters of the United Nations in Bonn. BARCODE Architects’ 50m tall office structure will be going head-to-head with the project of Stefan Lippert Architekt & ANNABAU Architektur und Landschaft. A winner will be announced by the end of 2013.
