Thirty projects by Australian architects, including a massive lotus flower building, have been announced as finalists for the 2014 Victorian Premier's Design Awards.

Projects from this year’s Architectural Design category are varied, with library, residential, hospital and education architecture all featured.

A noticeable finalist is The Lotus Building and People’s Park in China designed by Studio505 (pictured below). The building features a giant lotus flower façade which wraps a double storey subterranean municipal facility and appears to float on the surrounding lake.

Finalists from six categories have been announced, including Architectural Design, Product Design, Communication Design, Digital Design, Service Design and Design Strategy.

Also of interest to the industry are a few projects from the Product Design category. The Immediate Response Shelter by Charlwood Design (pictured below) is a promising product for aid relief and has been well received by working charities such as IRFC and Oxfam. The D900+ Led Downlight from Brightgreen also features; its interchangeable fascia system and 30 year bulb life impressing the judges.

The Best in Category and Premier's Design Award of the Year will be announced at a presentation ceremony in Melbourne in September.
