The Green Building Council of Australia’s (GBCA’s) board of directors has elected Daniel Grollo of Grocon as Chair of the board.
Grollo leads Australia’s largest privately-owned development and construction company, and is the former National President of the Property Council of Australia, a non-executive director on the BlueScope Steel board, and has been a Board Director of the GBCA since its inception in 2002.
Chief Executive of the GBCA, Romilly Madew, says the organisation is pleased with the appointment.
“Daniel has been a leader in Australia’s green building movement. Grocon is a well-established leader in green building practices, has 10 Green Star-rated buildings under its belt and many more registered. Daniel’s expertise and insights will be invaluable as we set an ambitious agenda for Australia’s sustainable future,” Madew said.

Grollo will be taking over from NDY's global director of sustainability, Tony Arnel, who was chair for five years, and will remain on the board as a director. Molly Harriss Olson, director of Eco Futures, has retired from the board after six years.
Grollo said:“The Green Star rating system has completely transformed the skylines of Australia’s capital cities in only 10 years. With 518 Green Star-rated buildings around Australia, Green Star is now set to drive better sustainability performance in our suburbs, schools, shopping centres, offices, apartments, hospitals and industrial facilities. In the last few years, we have expanded our view of sustainability from buildings to communities, and from new buildings to existing buildings. I pay tribute to Tony’s contribution as Chair and I look forward to working with the GBCA’s inspiring team to reinforce Australia’s reputation as a world-leader in sustainability,” he said.
