Developers behind plans for a multi-storey mixed-use project in Adelaide are proposing to spend millions in street improvements, including a ‘Copenhagen-style bike path’ which allows wide footpaths and tramline extensions.

Developers Sturt Land have lodged plans including for 427 apartments with ground-floor space for retailers and food outlets and have proposed spending $4.3 million on the streetscaping, if the local council and State Government also contribute funding.

Adelaide Now reports that the concept, designed by architects Woods Bagot and landscape architects Oxigen, proposes narrowing Sturt St with parallel parking instead of angle parking, installing lanes for bikes, cars and room for trams with the footpath (described as a Copenhagen-style bike path), with overhead green canopies to provide shade and upgrading surrounding roads.
