The conceptual Japanese architect famous for the interactive Tower of winds in Yokohama, Toyo Ito, will be visiting Australia this month as part of the Australian Institute of Architects’ (AIA) international speaker series — and the proceeds from the Melbourne lecture will go to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, the institute announced yesterday.
Considered one of the world's most innovative and influential architects, Toyo Ito has received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the 8th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 2002, the RIBA Royal Gold Medal in 2006 and Austria’s Frederick Kiesler Prize for Architecture and the Arts in 2008.
There are 240 tickets available for next week's Melbourne presentation and there are places still available at Sydney event too.
The Melbourne event will be held on Tuesday 17 February at 8pm, at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Tune in a special radio broadcast by RRR’s The Architects at 7pm, via the live stream at rrr.org.au or 102.7FM (Melbourne and environs). Toyo Ito will be speaking at the Sydney event on Thursday 19 February at 6:30pm, at the MLC Centre.
