Billard Leece Partnership’s Ballarat Acute Mental Health Facility has been announced the winner of the 2011 Design & Health International Academy Award for Mental Health Design.

The Facility is part of BLP’s ongoing redevelopment works for Ballarat Health Services which also includes the Integrated Cancer Centre currently under construction.

The Design & Health International Academy Awards is the leading global advocacy program recognising professional excellence in the research and practice designing healthy built environments.

The renovation and expansion of the existing Ballarat Acute Mental Health Facility maintains the number of beds while providing a warm, light filled, welcoming facility with large open spaces for activity and leisure.

A new entrance with an open timber fence allows the facility to portray a more open and engaging presence to the wider community and the architecture creates inviting, domestic scaled spaces.
