The Clean Energy Council has appointed three new board members, including an infrastructure specialist, in a bid to bring Australia up to speed with the federal government’s renewable energy target.

Steve MacDonald, chief executive officer of Transfield Services Infrastructure Fund, Dr Michael Ottaviano, managing director of wave energy developer Carnegie Corporation and Dr Paul Simshauser, chief economist and group head of corporate affairs at AGL Energy Limited are joining the board.

Clean Energy Council chief executive Matthew Warren said the recent appointments demonstrate the diversity and depth of knowledge of Australia’s evolving clean energy industry.

“The eventual deployment of the federal government’s renewable energy target — 20 per cent by 2020 — will unleash investment across Australia’s clean energy industry and the CEC is proud to support this transformation,” Warren said.

MacDonald has more than 26 years' experience in the infrastructure sector, having been instrumental in Transfield Services’ global expansion through various executive management roles — establishing the New Zealand business, as former CEO of Yarra Trams and positioning Transfield Services as a leader in asset management services. He was responsible for leading TSI into the renewable energy sector.

Ottaviano has been the managing director of Carnegie Corporation since 2006 and is also a member of the Australian government’s Energy White Paper advisory committee.

Simshauser has worked in the energy industry for more than 18 years, having commenced his career with the Queensland Electricity Commission. Dr Simshauser was previously the CEO of power generators Babcock & Brown Power and NewGen Power and was the General Manager Energy Trading at Stanwell Corporation Limited between 1997 and 2005.
