An event taking place on Cockatoo Island in Sydney July 16 is set to create a large-scale collaborative canvas.

The Underbelly Arts Festival will see warehouses and offices on the island transformed into a large-scale collaborative canvas by artists from a variety of disciplines.

Visitors will be able to watch over 150 theatre-makers, installation artists, musicians, sound artists, dancers, inflatable artists and performers collaborated at the Festival day extravaganza.

Leading up to the festival a free 10 day residency that allows the public to get behind the scenes and watch the art unfold.

Fresh art by by Kyla Ring will respond to the island's architecture

Projects will include Water Damage is an installation of drawings, painting and environmental sculpture by Kyla Ring. Experimenting with a call and response approach, Kyla will respond to the architecture of Cockatoo Island in a series of interactive artworks.

Kyla has previously exhibited in Berlin and Paris and contributed to projects at Peat’s Ridge, Walking The Street and Next Wave Festival in Melbourne.
