One of Britain’s best-known architects has admitted that his claim that he was ‘quitting architecture to pursue art’ in August was merely a smokescreen to hide his move to a rival practice.

Stirling Prize winner, Will Alsop, concealed his move away from practice Archial by claiming that he needed to prove himself in the art world.

Instead he has joined commercial giant RMJM in a secret deal, reports The Times.

He said: “You have to understand that at that time … I was not in a position to say what I really thought.”??A spokeswoman for RMJM said that if it had not been for “really difficult contracts to negotiate” the move would have been announced sooner, reports The Architect’s Journal.??Alsop claims he will continue to paint in the RMJM London office and “the abstract designs he creates would be incorporated into designs for buildings”, The Times article claims.
