One of Australia's greenest residential buildings, the residential development Serrata designed by Hayball in Melbourne's Victoria Harbour, has reached practical completion.

The fifteen level apartment building was designed to be ‘stylish, bold and edgy’, with a focus on quality design and green architecture.

The development by Lend Lease and Sekisui House is the latest in the line of sustainable additions to Victoria Harbour having recently received a 4 Star Green Star — Multi Unit Residential v1 certified rating from Green Building Council of Australia.

Paul Shaw, Head of Lend Lease’s Apartments business said more than 50 per cent of apartments were sold within the first week of launch.

“Serrata was made possible with our positive working relationship with Sekisui House which allowed us to develop a project that is attractive to buyers and has many environmental benefits,” said Shaw.

Serrata residents are encouraged to live a sustainable lifestyle with the ability to monitor and manage electricity consumption with the installation of smart metres in every apartment, in addition to having low-E double glazed windows which reduce the use of heaters and air conditioners, and materials chosen with low volatile organic compounds resulting in improved indoor air quality

The project’s urban design promotes community interaction, place activation and green living with its connectivity to Victoria Green offering a children’s playground, fitness equipment, kiosk, and community garden.

The nearby public transport includes trams and trains and there is bicycle storage for all dwellings in Serrata with access to local cycle paths further enhancing Victoria Harbour’s green credentials.

Victoria Harbour has the greatest concentration of green buildings in Australia and is continuing to be an exemplar precinct when it comes to sustainable communities.

The Victoria Harbour Precinct is working towards Climate Positive* certification which aims to set a new global benchmark for leadership in large-scale urban development to minimise environmental impacts.
