Construction is due to start in August on a new Hervey Bay hotel, the first of over $1 billion worth of development in the area.

The world’s largest hotel company, Wyndham Hotel Group, is the management partner for the new luxury resort, designed by Australian architects V Arc.

Hervey Bay was recently named as Australia’s second fastest growing city. The $120 million Wyndham Hervey Bay Resort, stage one, is the first of several development projects planned for the Fraser Coast region.

The resort will be located opposite the Urangan Boat Harbour and comprise162 luxury apartments and penthouses, conference facilities for 300 guests and a lagoon pool.

It is targeting a 5 star rating.

Key feature the architects have incorporated include a grande-portecochere and six metre high ceilings within the atrium style lobby, to reinforce the luxury nature of the apartment complex.

Resort Interiors has been appointed as fit-out partners and Hutchison Builders will deliver construction.

Other major developments scheduled to commence in the area over the next nine months include the $110 million Hervey Bay St Stephen’s Hospital and the $100 million Stockland Shopping Centre.

Stage one of construction is expected to be completed by April 2013.
