The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has won the National Award in the Public Design category and the Best of State Award in the Commercial Design category at the Australian Interior Design Awards.

The venue was also Highly Commended in the Environmentally Sustainable Design category.

Now in its seventh year, the Australian Interior Design Awards recognise and celebrate interior design excellence via a credible, industry-based program backed by the Design Institute of Australia, the professional body representing Australian designers.

MCEC’s chief executive, Leigh Harry, says: "These major design awards are further acknowledgement of the centre’s outstanding design features.

"Congratulations once again to the designers Joint Venture Architects Woods Bagot and NH Architecture, and to the developers Plenary Group, builders Brookfield Multiplex, the State Government of Victoria, the City of Melbourne and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust (MCET) on such a successful joint venture that has produced this multi award-winning public building."

As well as being the first 6 star Green Star environmentally rated convention and exhibition centre in the world, the MCEC has been the winner of numerous awards for its exceptional environmental and design features.
