Peddle Thorp Architects will design a 'new vision' for Cranbourne Racecourse in a bid to create an environment that will enable horses to be treated like high end athletes.
Design director Peter Brook said the project necessitated a masterplan for a world class training complex for up to 600 horses.
"The modular design of the stables allows for staging of works and for groupings to suit multiple trainer requirements," he said.
The racecourse will incorporate a range of features
• Orientation to the training track for easy access
• Double storey building providing vantage “look-out” terraces for trainers to view the training sessions
• Limited studio style accommodation for staff
• Office tenancies for trainers
• Landscaped environment
• Orientation of the building to the north and environmentally sustainable design
• Natural ventilation details to enable consistent air flow throughout the stables
• Isolation quarters
• Waste management and recycling
• User-friendly circulation ramps
• Horse-gym
Brook said in designing the complex, the horses were considered to be high-end athletes.
"To this end the knowledge we have gained throughout numerous training and sports centres was used to deliver an operational and technical solution for both Racing Victoria and its users at Cranbourne."
