Fairfax Media House in Melbourne has won the Australian Development of the Year at the Property Council Awards.
The building is home to The Age newspaper, Australian Financial Review and 3AW and was completed in 2009 by a consortium of companies including: Bates Smart, Fulcrum Town Planner, Grocon, Grocon Constructors, Norman Disney & Young and ESD, Rider Levett Bucknall, Westpac and Winward Structures.
The A-Grade commercial office accommodation has achieved a five star, Green Star rating.
The Property Council of Australia Chief Operating Officer Ken Morrison said:
"Housing some of the country's biggest media companies, the development has achieved outstanding benchmarks in innovation and sustainability."
Fairfax Media House beat 101 contenders from across the country and also won the Colliers International Award for Best Office Development and the Project Control Group Award for Best Workplace Project.
Other winners for the 2012 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards were The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania which won the Best Public Building Award.
Sydney Corporate Park won the Best Business Industrial Parks award for its development set over 20 hectares in the inner City of Sydney and which attracts 4000 visitors per day.
The Award for Best Sustainable Development went to the iseek Data Centre in Brisbane which is described as "the most architecturally significant and energy efficient data centre in Australia. Strategically designed to reduce its carbon footprint, power consumption and energy through design and technology innovations, the centre has achieved a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.3 by The Green Grid, one of the lowest power usage indexes in Australia."
The Charles building comprising of a 99 room hotel, 14 luxury residential apartments and 15 commercial offices which is located in Tasmania won the Woodhead Award for Best Mixed-Use Development.
