A new website dedicated to promoting the fresh energy of the Queensland design industry was launched at the Queensland Premier's Design Awards last week.

The site www.queenslandersign.com.au allows users to view state design innovations and projects, as well as connect to educational resources for designers, businesses, teachers, students and design fans.

Unveiling the new resource, Arts Minister Rachel Nolan said: "The launch of website marks the first stage of the QUEENSLANDERSIGN™, an initiative of the Queensland Design Council, and the concept of Council member Sean Cummins, one of the team behind the Best Job in the World campaign," Ms Nolan said.

"QUEENSLANDERSIGN™ is all about celebrating the state's outstanding design achievements and conveying its unique attitude and approach, one that is fresh, vibrant and optimistic, to the rest of the world; and it all begins with this website.

"The state's design sector is among the most innovative in the Asia Pacific and in the wake of natural disasters we are provided with the opportunity to rebuild smarter and more sustainably than in the past.

"As part of stage two of the project, the Queensland Design Council will identify outstanding Queensland firms and individuals to be formally endorsed under the QUEENSLANDERSIGN™ campaign over the coming months, so I encourage everyone to keep a close eye on www.queenslandersign.com.au for updates."

Professor Julianne Schultz AM (Pictured), Chair of the Queensland Design Council said the new website showcases systems, services, products or projects identified by the Queensland Design Council as embodying good design in the state.

"The site features inspiring case studies and updates on the latest design news and resources while letting the rest of the world know what's happening right here in Queensland," Ms Schultz said.

Ms Nolan also announced the State Library of Queensland had secured Bruce Mau, the design star transforming international understanding of design's capacity to create change, to present the 2011 Nielson Design Lecture on Wednesday 23 November.

"This is a national coup for Queensland's design community as it will be the first time Mr Mau has visited our state on one of his rare visits to Australia," Ms Nolan said.

"Mr Mau has a unique reputation for interdisciplinary and purpose-driven design innovation, and is renowned for celebrated projects such as Xochimilco [soh-chee-milkoh], the revolutionary aquarium and learning centre development at a UNESCO heritage site in Mexico City.

"I congratulate State Library Queensland and Nielson Properties on a partnership that delivers the Queensland design community access to world-class discussion on urban design and sustainability."

Tickets for the Nielson Design Lecture will be available from October.
