NSW Health has appointed Rice Daubney as architects for the Prince of Wales Hospital Comprehensive Cancer & Blood Disorder Centre (CC& DBC).

The new $48 million facility will accommodate ambulatory, outpatient and radiotherapy services and will be located at the north eastern corner of the Randwick hospital campus.

The facility is expected to span three levels and provide 6,400 sqm of specialised medical space.

“The project presents a unique architectural challenge, set in a heritage context on a busy tertiary health care campus,” said Ronald Hicks, Principal and Head for Health + Research at Rice Daubney.

“Our goal is to design an environment focussed on patient care whilst providing a stimulating work environment for staff. Critical elements of the design will include access to natural light, the nature of built form, material finish and perceived quality and the nature and variety of spatial experiences,” he said.

Initial designs are underway and SESIAHS anticipates the project will be complete by 2013.
