A low height division was created with angled steel and thermo-formed Staron Solid Surfaces in order to create a sub-space within the foyer. This was an aesthetic device as well as having the practical aim of helping guide people through the lobby.

Bronwyn McColl, interior designer at Woods Bagot said of the design:

“A high end commercial building, the quality of Waterfront Place’s finishes needed to be five stars. The material was to sit recessed between two angled steel plates as a usable ledge. Staron provided a finish that complemented the metal, without being overpowering and could seamlessly follow the contours of the curve.”

The client brief was to have a foyer that was simple to maintain and as such the finishes on surfaces have the option of being buffed in order to keep a new look in years to come.

Richard Cardy Design won the Residential Category for a home which featured Staron Quasar White and California Poppy throughout.

Staron state that the original client brief was to include colours and curve.

"Starting with the kitchen benchtop, Richard selected Staron Solid surfaces. Staron provided design freedom to create something unique. An open 100mm thick thermo-formed curved island unit was created and is the stand out feature piece as you enter the open plan kitchen space. The Staron Solid Surface on the island continues in one monolithic surface, and flows into double Staron integrated sinks."

Amy Quinn designed a concept for a bench seat which featured solid surfaces and is made from American Oak timber.

She said of her design:

“The ability of Staron to be cut and thermoformed provides great scope for furniture, beyond it's flourishing use as bench and tablesurfaces.”

“As the curved seat of this customisable chair/bench, the functionality of thethermoformed sheet is realised,” Quinn said.

The judges for this year included Mandi Keighran from Indesign Magazine, Stephen Varady from Kann Finch Group and Amanda Stanaway from Woods Bagot (who 'stepped away' from the judging of her own firm).

Staron Solid Surfaces created by Samsung, and is manufactured from a natural mineral refined from bauxite and blended with pure acrylic resin.
