A global survey of architecture practices has listed six Australian studios in the top echelon.
??HASSELL has ranked number one in the six Australian firms listed in the World Architecture Top 100 survey, compiled in association with UK publication Building Design.
Speaking globally, the principal player is Japanese firm Nikken Sekkei, which employs 1,165 architects.??Ken Maher’s practice charted as the 25th biggest architecture firm in the world, employing 352 architects.
According to the survey, Cox Architects is the second largest firm in Australia and, with 300 architects. The practice is in joint 29th place in the world.??HBO+EMTB graded third in Australia with 272 architects and ranking 32nd globally, followed by Woodhead (245 employees) in 35th position, Bates Smart in the 58th spot with 146 architects on the books, and Thomson Adsett Architects at 98th (76).
Looking at the balance sheets, HASSELL grossed an estimated $17.5 million in 2009 placing it in equal fifth position globally, HBO+EMTB came in seventh ($16.5 million) and Bates Smart in 10th ($10 million).
