The State of Design Festival has announced details of its ‘Design for Business’ program.

The program has been developed with a focus on ‘inspiration as a legitimate tool for improvement’.

Taking place in July, the program features thinkers and innovators from around the globe exploring critical design issues relevant to an Australian business audience.

State of Design will also launch an online resource to inspire successful business and design collaborations.

Highlights of the Design for Business program include the 9 TO 5 Talks Program.

The Talks Program is a series of live, Skype conversations presented by the State of Design Festival. In a Q&A format, a select group of Melbourne’s leading designers and visionaries will pose nine critical questions to some of the world’s most prominent design thinkers including Ilse Crawford (UK).

Crawford founded British Elle Decoration and was Vice President of Donna Karan Home.

Another is Milton Glaser (USA), the creator of the iconic I ? NY and is one of the most celebrated graphic designers in the world.

The event’s keynote speaker will be Carolyn Steel (UK).

Steel is an architect, lecturer and writer and will be hosted in Melbourne for three forums around food consumption in cities with a focus on urban agriculture.

Steel’s chief interest is in exploring how cities are shaped by food and her work has focused on developing a lateral approach to urban design that looks at the everyday routines that shape cities and the way we inhabit them.

Her book, Hungry City: How Food Shapes Our Lives, won the Royal Society of Literature Jerwood Award for Non-Fiction.
