A City of Melbourne urban planner has won the prestigious Sidney Luker Memorial Medal. Professor Rob Adams is currently the director, design and urban environment at the City of Melbourne.

The award acknowledges the significant contribution he has made to the planning profession particularly in raising the profile of urban design, who has also been awarded an Order of Australia (AM) for services to urban design, town planning and architecture.

Over 20 years, Adams has guided the first comprehensive urban design strategy for the City of Melbourne, as well as elevating the profile of public art. More recently he has made a significant contribution to the City’s ‘Zero Emissions 2020’ project through such buildings as CH2, Australia’s first six star Green Star commercial building.

The Sidney Luker Memorial Medal was established in 1954 by three institutes — planners, surveyors and architects. The medal recognises the significant contribution made by Sidney Luker as chief county planner to the newly formed Cumberland County Council.

It is awarded every two years to a person who has made a notable contribution to town and regional planning in Australia, selected by a panel of former NSW presidents of The Planning Institute of Australia.
