The Vivid Sydney festival is the largest celebration of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere and will be held from the 25 May until the 11 June 2012.
The Harbour Foreshore, Circular Quay and The Rocks will become the outdoor stage for over 50 light art sculptures, performances from local and international musicians and the Vivid Ideas Exchange at the MCA featuring public talks and debates from global creative thinkers
The Australian Institute of Architects will be recognising 2012 Gold Medal winner, Lawrence Nield on their Gold Medal Tour with an address by Nield and refreshments on the 29th May. The even is free for AIA members.
An invite only event will take place as part of The Sydney Architecture Festival which will pose the question 'what would you do if you were mayor for a day'?
The discussion will be launched at the Vivid Ideas Exchange at the MCA, on June 8 and will bring together 42 Mayors.
NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner said that other events will cover topics from electronic gaming, fashion, film, and design to publishing, architecture and photography.
From 6.00pm to midnight every night, Vivid Sydney will feature a free light show with over 50 interactive and immersive light art sculptures, illuminated skyscrapers and large scale projections.
Festival director Jess Scully said:
“Vivid Ideas is a summit, forum and a playground for the creative industries to challenge and inspire ideas, and to connect our creators with the support networks and expert guidance that helps convert ideas into applied innovation,” she said.
Other program highlights will include keynote talks from Cory Doctorow, author and co-founder of world famous weblog Boing Boing; Chad Dickerson, CEO of Etsy; UK fashion talent, Henry Holland, from House of Holland, Jake Nickell, founder of Threadless and an appearance by VICE founder and CEO Shane Smith.
