Global construction company Brookfield Multiplex has completed Cbus
Property’s new $440 million flagship office building in Melbourne.
Located at 720 Bourke Street in Docklands, west of Melbourne’s CBD, the A
Grade office space designed by Hassell Architects is certified for a Six Star
Green Star Office Design v3 rating and targeting a 5 star NABERS rating. The
building with a net lettable area of more than 47,000 square metres, will house
Medibank as an anchor tenant in addition to a mix of commercial tenants across
22 levels.
According to Mr Graham Cottam, Regional Managing Director of Brookfield
Multiplex Victoria, the impressive building stands out on the Docklands skyline,
adding that the complex project, which commenced in May 2012, was managed in
collaboration with Cbus Property to deliver an outstanding outcome.
The new office building features double-glazed glass, perforated metal
screens, metal cladding and timber as well as stone tiling and timber panelling
in the lobbies, vertical gardens, 1500 square metres of open garden space and
two large greenwalls creating a park atmosphere in the CBD.
A 22-storey central
atrium reaching to the top floor allows entry of natural light. The atrium was
constructed by erecting a crash deck and a temporary waterproofing canopy
wrapping around the tower crane to protect the finishing works below, enabling
construction to continue uninterrupted.
ESD elements in the building include underfloor air distribution, BMS
and controlled mechanical and electrical systems, green planting, recycled
water use, a trigeneration system, photovoltaic cells on the roof and a
230,000-litre storage tank for rainwater catchment and irrigation.
