Italian designer Fabio Biavaschi was honoured at VIVID 2014 with a Best
Product award in the Commercial category for his wooden armchair, MEK_ac01 inspired
by the traditional Meccano building game for kids.
VIVID, Vibrant Visions in Design is Australia’s longest running design
competition and a highlight of Decor + Design, which was recently held at the Melbourne
Exhibition Centre. Fabio was one of five winners presented with an Award of
Excellence in Design on the opening day of Decor + Design, across student, concept,
commercial and lighting categories.
Fabio, who lives in Melbourne now, said winning the award for best
product in a contest held in the same city was a wonderful feeling. Fabio
competed against 58 emerging designers from all over Australia and New Zealand
who had presented more than 80 innovative pieces.
The MEK_ac01 armchair will be officially launched at the Workshopped14
Exhibition to be held in Sydney from 14 August to 27 August.
