Fabio Biavaschi introduces the Meccano Collection, the latest range developed as part of its design collaboration with custom furniture maker Bosisio Mobili.

Presented during the FuoriSalone at the Milan Design Week in April 2014, the Meccano Collection, as the name suggests, is inspired by the historic game of Meccano consisting of reusable metal strips, plates, angle girders, wheels, axles and gears, with nuts and bolts to connect the pieces. The Meccano Collection also introduces the same element of fun as the original game, enabling buyers to enjoy the process of building their own furniture.

MEK_ac01, the first product from the Meccano Collection is an armchair made of wood ash light. Supplied in a completely dismantled condition, the armchair can be assembled easily by following the almost elementary installation instructions with no special equipment required.

The structure of the chair is static while the seat and the back are ergonomic and can be assembled together using special joints. While the seat and the back are rigid, one can assume an appropriate inclination to reach a right and healthy posture.

The chair's panels are made of light ash veneered plywood left to its natural appearance on one side and painted on the other. The chair's structure is in solid ashwood and treated with wax to leave a natural finish.

MEK_ac01 also addresses environmental concerns as it does not use adhesives and comes with natural finishes. Currently in production, the armchair is available in two versions for children and adults - MEK_KIDS and MEK_BIG.
