The environmental design practice of Frost*Collective, Urbanite designed
and executed environmental graphics and signage for Charter Hall’s new
headquarters at 1 Martin Place, Sydney in the heart of the CBD. Charter
Hall is one of Australia's largest managers of office, retail and industrial
properties.
The new headquarters feature two levels of Activity Based Workspace designed
by BVN Architects to house over 300 Charter Hall staff.
Urbanite was commissioned to highlight Charter Hall’s sleek,
sophisticated and ‘edgy’ personality through environmental graphics and
signage. The team was briefed to build on BVN’s ‘industrial sophistication’ scheme,
drawing on a range of materials and graphics to enliven the space and provide
uniqueness.
Urbanite based their graphic approach on the Charter Hall logo, using it
as a foundation to connect all touch points. A grid was developed around the
idea of multiples, reflecting a diverse workforce that brings the right mix of
ingredients to Charter Hall. Underpinning these multiple elements is a
grid created from the forms of the brand mark.
The grid and facets were explored across ceiling frescoes, stair features
and wall installations. Urbanite also collaborated with Arup to design a
reception light installation, creating a sculptural point of interest, and an interpretation
of the brand identity.
