DOMOTEX 2015, the world’s leading trade fair for floor coverings announced the winners of the Carpet Design Awards 2015 competition.

Presented by Innovations@DOMOTEX 2015 recently in Hannover, Germany, the Carpet Design Awards celebrates and honours the world’s most beautiful handmade carpets, with prizes awarded in eight categories by an international jury of carpet and design experts. Recognising both design and quality, categories include studio artist designs, traditional and modern carpets and rugs and best innovation among others.

The 10th edition of the prestigious international awards for modern handmade carpets saw more than 250 designer pieces from 23 countries being submitted in the competition for the coveted trophies, with 25 carpets reaching the final round. The eight winning designs impressed the expert jury with outstanding characteristics in terms of form, colour and material. Key parameters for judging included design and design concept, material, finish, texture and quality, as well as sustainability and branding.

Michael Sodeau, who led the Carpet Design Awards jury, and also heads his own design practice in London, said that the judging panel consisted of people working in different countries and having hugely different skillsets leading to a very engaging and informative session.

The eight winners received their awards at a prestigious ceremony in the presence of guests from the retail and design sectors of the international carpet industry. A keenly anticipated event every year, the presentation of the Carpet Design Awards is one of the highlights of DOMOTEX 2015.

This year, the prize-giving ceremony was held for the first time as part of the Innovations@DOMOTEX showcase.
