Entries are still open for the 2010 LookHome Green Design Awards which recognise and reward the best in sustainable, affordable and innovatively designed homes that incorporate lightweight construction.

According to Robert Caulfield, strategic marketing director for CKDesignworks and one of the judges for the 2010 awards, the popularity of lightweight construction has risen significantly in recent years.

"Compared to 10 or 15 years ago when the public were demanding a brick finish, there is now a trend towards the modern look that you can get with lightweight materials," he says.

The awards will include five categories: best new custom built home, best display or demonstration home, best medium density/townhouse development, best renovation and best shed or studio.

Entrants will need to demonstrate how their project:

- is designed using materials chosen with regard to their embodied energy, and impact on energy efficiency, the health of occupants and the site on which the home is built

- addresses affordability in cost of construction and/or running and maintenance costs

- is innovative in design

- incorporates lightweight construction

- meets the brief of the client

The judging panel will include: Noel Dyett from Curnow Dyett; Stephen Berry from the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and The Arts; Ralph Horne from RMIT; and Sue Harris from Architecture Media.

Entries can be upload to www.lookhome.com.au prior to the July 9 deadline.
