A Telstra retail store fitout by Geyer interior designers has taken the honours in the Telecommunications, Mobile Technology category at the 2014 International Store Design Awards.
Announced at a Gala dinner at Times Center Stage in New York City, the Telstra store, dubbed a ‘Store of the Future’, trumped international competition to win its category in the award’s 43rd edition.
Briefed by Telstra to design a futuristic store experience, the store’s open plan and product stations are user-friendly and establish a strong customer interaction experience.
“Telstra engaged [us] to design a ‘Store of the Future’ concept including new, defining customer and staff experiences,” said Geyer.
“The concept has been implemented into the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre store and provides a live environment to test and further develop new initiatives as Geyer continue to support Telstra in their ongoing transformation.”

Another Australian project to feature at the awards was the Sunglass Hut Floating Store in Sydney that won an Award of Merit in the Hard Line Specialty Store category.
A Luxottica Retail Australia initiative, the floating store concept is situated at Campbells Cove in Sydney’s Darling Harbour and is comprised of a radial steel structure, dual curved acrylic panels and mirror-polished stainless steel spider fittings.
The Floating Store is lit by a combination of natural sunlight and the latest generation of low power LED spotlights.

The brief asked designers to bring the Sunglass Hut brand to life in a dramatic and exaggerated way to allow re-connection with their customers in a cool and credible way.
“The unique vessel, docked at Sydney's Darling Harbour, wowed customers with exclusive product offering in a new and exciting store. The brand’s promise to make available the latest, fashion-forward styles while maintaining a cool, fun and sexy attitude was fulfilled,” said Luxottica.
