While the quest to develop an “all-in-one” product in the electronics and smartphone industry is well documented, the building products sector has also, albeit more quietly, been going about developing multi-purpose solutions for quite some time.
The trick has been to avoid the “jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none” trap, and to develop versatile products that will perform a variety of tasks without compromising on performance.
So just like those who brought us the claw hammer, Leatherman and lineman’s pliers, global manufacturer of building materials and solutions, USG Boral has also come to the market with a single product solution for multiple applications.
USG Boral’s FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ Interior Panels is a safe and easy-to-install interior lining system that resists: toxic mould, sound, impact, fire and water absorption or seepage into wall cavities, and is fast becoming the choice for respected architects and contractors around the country.
FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ is a single-source, single-product solution for interior lining applications where previously tailored acoustic, plasterboard or wet area boards would need to be specified.
Not only is FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ Interior Panels easy to cut, and faster to install than fibre cement products, the fact that FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ can be used on a variety of surfaces means the specifier has less inventory to manage in terms of delivery to and around the site, that can assist to increase efficiency and reduce wastage.
The panels are a unique, gypsum fibre product comprising a water-resistant core and a mineral rich surface for a product that possesses the impact toughness of masonry combined with the design and installation convenience of plasterboard—perfect for high-traffic areas.
FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ Interior Panels derive strength and water resistance from the unique composition that, because there is no paper needed on the outside of the product, means the product won’t delaminate, scratch, tear or feed mould—perfect for healthcare and wet-area projects.
It is this composition and versatility that is seeing the product specified for large scale commercial projects as an “all-in-one” solution.
For example, Sydney-based construction and fit-out company, Interior Works recently specified over 800sqm of FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ for their Circular Quay Overseas Passenger Terminal project. Interior Works chose FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ over two different fibre cement materials for the internal and external soffit linings, wall linings in stairwells and on bulk heads.
Woods Bagot’s award-winning South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) also saw a large amount of FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ specified throughout. The $200 million, 30,000sqm facility has FIBEROCK® Aqua-Tough™ lined labs, research areas and offices.
