TAFE NSW Sydney Institute Director, David Riordan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with built environment industry body, Building Designers Australia (BDA) NSW.

Mr Riordan said the MOU signing exemplified the Institute’s ‘Future Directions’ strategic plan and signifies an exciting partnership between the BDA and Sydney Institute.

“Sydney Institute’s strategic plan provides the road map into a more competitive, dynamic and consumer-driven environment,” he said.

“The MOU provides a framework for us to work together to strengthen a training culture and design learning pathways which will consolidate business sustainability for BDA NSW’s 400 members.”

“As one of Australia’s largest and most innovative education and training providers, TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute is a natural fit to promote building design as a recognised career path within the construction industry and deliver a high standard of education to current and entry level building designers.

“Formalising our relationship will facilitate the delivery of new training packages for BDA NSW’s members and qualification courses for building designers, from the Certificate IV Building Design Drafting through to Graduate Certificate of Building Design.”

NSW Chapter President, Mr John Hatch said the BDA is recognised as a proactive leader on issues affecting the built environment and the building industry.

“Our members are a dedicated group of professionals who prepare documentation for about 90 per cent of all building work carried out in NSW,” Mr Hatch said.

“On average, each member designs and documents building work to the value of about $7 million every year.”
