Three Australian projects have walked away with international Restaurant & Bar Design Awards.
The awards, now in its fifth year, is one of the most innovative and prestigious events in the hospitality and design world.
Winning the Australia & Pacific (Restaurant) category was The Century in Sydney designed by Paring Onions.
Located in The Star casino, the interior incorporates symbolisms of Chinese culinary culture with a modern twist.
On Paring Onions website it says, “It was critical to keep the Golden Century’s unique history and culture in mind, but also an opportunity to introduce a refreshing side of the group, inspired by a creative take on Chinese dining customs.”
Taking away the Australia & Pacific (Bar) category was Alfred & Constance located in Fortitude Valley designed by Derlot.
Comprising of several dining areas and bars – each with seemingly a different theme – the interiors can only be described as eclectic.
The Third Wave Kiosk located at the Torquay Foreshore designed by Tony Hobba Architects won in the Canteen category.
On its website, Tony Hobba Architects says, “This project was inspired by the eroding forces of the ocean. The skin of rusting steel piles driven into the dunes provides a canvas for the expression of these natural forces. The oxiding patina nestles into the coastal scape, suggesting a piece of washed up furniture, maybe cobbled together with found materials.”

Entries for the awards were in the thousands from designers and operators involved in UK and global hospitality.
