The Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries (AWCI) will be running a series of Passive Fire Protection seminars across several states in February.

The AWCI says the workshops provide vital information in educating building designers, architects, building certifiers and surveyors, contractors and other trades about passive fire protection and light weight party wall systems in their design and installation, which is becoming critical in multi-residential constructions.

The association states: “Having correct design and installation of such systems allow fires in parts of a building to stay contained, and are a major element in minimising loss of life and property damage. The AWCI has found a high demand for more information on this area and the pilot seminars have been well received.”

Workshops will include information on:

  • Importance of passive fire protection
  • Overview of party wall systems & external walls
  • Troubleshooting where two systems overlap
  • Common design and installation oversights
  • Training available for installers and certifiers

The AWCI represents the plastering industry in Australia and New Zealand, working with the government, key members of the industry, and allied trades to bring about better practice and higher standards.

The workshops are supported by the Australian Government, and getting as much coverage as possible.
