The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) has unveiled its new leadership team, with a new President, Vice President and two new Directors.

Andrew Brady (pictured top) has assumed the role of President and Board Chair following two terms as Vice President. The Institute’s youngest-ever President, Brady will steer the AIQS towards improving diversity, equity and inclusion within the profession, as well as developing standards and promoting the profession throughout the built environment.

“We are thrilled to welcome Andrew to this position,” says AIQS CEO, Grant Warner.

“Andrew is the youngest AIQS President and is known for his passionate attitude toward reigniting the value and reputation of quantity surveying professionals within the built environment and we look forward to continuing our work throughout 2024 and 2025 under his leadership.”

Brady says the utility value of the profession is crucial to the future of Australia’s built environment.

“A quantity surveying professional’s office can be the tallest building in a city, underground in tunnels, within the inner workings of sporting stadiums, or in the courtroom,” he says.

The profession’s versatility offers incredible careers to a diverse range of individuals who can become the catalyst for construction projects to succeed. With over 10,000 professionals working in cost-related roles across Australia, there is an extraordinary opportunity for AIQS to facilitate networking, education, collaboration and connection within the profession.

“Each of our Directors have a true passion for creating positive change within our profession, and together with our AIQS team look forward to further connecting with the industry in 2024.”

Ajantha Premarathna and Joe Wong will join Brady on the board as newly-appointed Directors, while Board Member, Fiona Doherty (pictured below) has been elected as Vice President.

“I am excited to have been nominated for this leadership role,” Doherty says.

“An area of particular focus for me will be in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion portfolio to support our strategic goal of ‘Leading a profession that is diverse and inclusive’.

“This will include improving the gender balance across the profession and promoting quantity surveying as an exciting and fulfilling career choice for all future generations.”

Former President Stephen Warne had overseen the Institute for the past two years, which saw the organisation review membership structures to facilitate pathways for all professionals with a role in cost management in the built environment. In addition, AIQS took the reins of complex industry challenges and showcased that the competence and experience of its members are the solution.

“The building, infrastructure, utilities and resources sectors globally juggled volatile material and labour costs, supply chain issues, new and revised regulations, and the fast-moving  adoption of embodied carbon reduction,” Warne writes in the 2022-23 AIQS Annual Report.
