Arcadia long-time Partner Chris Tidswell (pictured centre) has this week been elevated to the role of Director in the landscape architecture practice’s NSW studio.

Joining the firm in 2018 as a Senior Associate, Tidswell was named a Partner 12 months later after demonstrating strong leadership on infrastructure, health and masterplanning projects.

“At Arcadia, it has always been a priority that there is a clear path for progression for our dedicated employees,” says Arcadia Director Alex Longley (pictured right).

“Over the past five years, Chris has demonstrated a passion and commitment to Arcadia’s growth and development and to achieving great outcomes for our clients and projects. Mike and I are thrilled that Chris will become a Director of Sydney’s operations, as we take the company into the next stage.

“With a talent for partnerships and combining strategic intelligence with creative design to deliver successful outcomes, Chris is working on some of Australia’s most iconic and complex projects, including the Western Gateway sub-precinct (Atlassian, Central Place Sydney and TOGA Central), Sydney Metro Barangaroo Station, TfNSW Sydney Terminal Building Revitalisation project, Sydney Metro West and the Campbelltown Billabong Parklands Precinct.”

Tidswell joined Arcadia with 12 years of experience in the built environment, and has been a registered member of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects since 2013. In that time, Tidswell has served on a number of AILA State and National Committees, Juries, and was elected as a National AILA Director in 2019, serving on the Board until 2021.

Currently the Honorary Secretary of the International Federation of Landscape Architects Asia Pacific (IFLA APR), Tidswell additionally sits on the organisation’s IFLA AAPME Awards Jury. Back home, Tidswell has been on several Urban Development Institute (UDIA) NSW Committees and is currently part of the Smart Cities Committee for 2023.

Tidswell says that both mentoring young design talent and connecting and designing with Country are his two major passions as he steps into the Director role.

“Growing up in Adelaide, from a young age I regularly experienced rural South Australia, which gave me an appreciation for the beauty of the Australian landscape,” he says.

“This evolved into a rewarding career as a Landscape Architect and Urban Designer, where I can combine my passion for the landscape, and building connections and partnerships, to build teams and deliver complex projects, whilst endeavouring to enrich community and Country in everything we do.”
