Clémence Carayol has joined Architecture & Design as the Digital Editor and the new editor of the design publication’s social media platforms.
Born in France, Carayol relocated from Paris to Melbourne in January 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
She holds a Bachelor's degree in French/German Law and a Master’s in Public Law. Her pivot to journalism led her to study at the Sorbonne, where she earned a Master’s Degree II in European Journalism.
Since embarking on her journalism career, Carayol has contributed to a diverse and some would say, eclectic array of publications across multiple countries. She has written for prominent French media outlets such as Le Monde, Courrier International, and Les Inrocks. Her expertise spans environmental issues, geopolitical movements, and culture and lifestyle. In Germany, she wrote for a local newspaper, focusing on German culture.
She penned societal and cultural features for Canadian outlet Urbania. Upon her arrival in Australia, Carayol took the helm at the local Victorian paper, The Euroa Gazette, and later served as a magazine editor at McPherson Media Group and also held the Editor's reins at Australian Design Review for a while. Prior to joining Architecture & Design, Carayol worked at Prime Creative Media as Editor of Australian Pipeliner and has also recently written a design feature for Harper's Bazaar.
"I am overjoyed to be back in the industry I love most, that touches and shapes all of us, all of our lives: the architecture and design one,” says Carayol.
