Carter Williamson Design Director Ben Peake has been awarded the 2023 Emerging Architect Prize by the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects, with the trailblazer recognised for his extensive leadership in his profession, as well as being an agent of social and cultural change.

Peake is highly regarded amongst his peers, responsible for the delivery of a number of acclaimed Carter Williamson projects.

“From Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship, and Dulux Study Tour winner, it is no surprise to us that Ben has been awarded the 2023 NSW Emerging Architect Prize,” says Carter Williamson Principal Shaun Carter.

“We are delighted his hard work, intellect and skill has been further acknowledged. Ben is a leader within Carter Williamson and is heavily involved with the profession and the broader community. An honour well deserved, congratulations Ben!”

Peake sits at the forefront of his practice’s gender and diversity policies, which have been recognised by the Institute via the awarding of the NSW AIA Best in Practice Prize. 

Outside of Carter Williamson, Peake has advocated for gender equity and diversity through working with Gender Equity Taskforce committees at a state and national level. He is additionally the Implementation Leader for Architects Champions of Change and Architects with Pride.

His architecture advocacy is also renowned throughout the built environment, playing a key role in the SaveOurSirius campaign, which aimed to retain the infamous brutalist building.

A worthy winner of the award, Architecture & Design congratulates Ben on both the award and his work in the built environment.
