Billard Leece Partnership (BLP) have this week announced that Founder Ron Billard has announced his retirement, after a 28-year tenure leading the practice.

Founded in 1995 alongside David Leece, BLP have endeavoured to create innovative, dynamic projects across a multitude of sectors. Expanding into a global practice with studios in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Hong Kong, Billard has overseen an evolution of the firm which has pushed the envelope in the likes of healthcare, learning spaces, science & technology, communities, and workplace.

“I have had the distinct privilege of working with an exceptional team of talented individuals who have, over the years, helped to shape BLP into the industry leader it is today,’ Billard says.

“Although I am stepping back, I am excited about BLP’s future and have full confidence in the talented team that will carry on our legacy, continuing to be leaders and innovators in our industry.”

BLP first came to prominence with a number of award winning urban infill housing and mixed-use projects, namely The Metropol St Kilda, Victoria, and Casba in Waterloo, NSW. It has received worldwide acclaim for its pioneering and award-winning projects in the realms of healthcare design and science + technology. Notable accomplishments include the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne, Perth Children’s Hospital, Orygen Youth Health, and the Doherty Institute.

RCH itself was the winner of a staggering 35 state, national and international awards, becoming a pioneer in healthcare design. Most recently, Campbelltown Hospital Redevelopment was recognised on the global stage, winning the top accolades for Mental Health Design and Interior Design and the Arts at the 2023 European Healthcare Design Awards.

“Ron Billard’s vision, tenacity, and relentless pursuit of excellence have indelibly shaped the culture and output of our practice,” says Tara Veldman, Managing Director, BLP.

“As we step into a new era, we are inspired by his legacy and remain committed to upholding the high standards he set. We wish Ron all the very best in his new endeavours and look forward to continuing to tap into his wisdom for our upcoming projects.”

Billard will now become a private consultant, and will offer his expertise and insights to the BLP team for current and future projects. The practice says that it extends a heartfelt gratitude to Ron Billard for his enduring dedication, his tireless work ethic, and his inspiring leadership. His contribution to the architectural community is truly remarkable, and his influence will undoubtedly resonate in the fabric of BLP and beyond.
