SJB has announced that long-time employees Beaudene Fulwood and Nigel Morris have been elevated to the role of Director, which marks a new chapter of growth for the practice’s Melbourne studio.

Since joining SJB in 2011, Fulwood has been involved in the delivery of a number of mixed-use projects, including 180 Flinders Street, Zero Gipps and South Yarra House. His work as Principal will see him involved in the initial design and town planning stages of new projects, as well as improving the practice’s sustainability credentials for large developments.

“SJB has continually fostered my career as an architect, and I look forward to taking on this new position with rigour and energy. I’m excited to be involved in our studio’s current wave of projects in social housing, aged care and build-to-rent, adding to our already extensive residential, commercial and hospitality work,” he says.

Morris was also appointed to the SJB team in 2011, bringing international expertise gained across a multitude of sectors. The newly-promoted Principal was recently involved in a number of Melbourne mixed-use projects, including 448 Brighton, Richmond Traders and 3 McNab. Morris says he is keen to grow the reputation of the practice.

“I’m proud to become a director of a business with a vision for a brighter future. Our emphasis on culture, on Country and driving for greater design, economic and social sustainability in our projects makes this studio a tremendous place to work,” he says.

SJB Founding Director Michael Bialek says the appointments reflect the next generation of the practice’s operation.

“It’s a great accomplishment for Australian architecture practices to advance beyond their founders and flourish into the future. I’m delighted to know SJB will continue to thrive under Nigel and Beau’s leadership, along with all our other directors in Melbourne and Sydney,” he says.

Current Director Fiona Coakley says the pair are thoroughly deserving of their promotion.

“For more than ten years I’ve enjoyed working with Beau and Nigel, and in many ways, we’ve grown up together. They both make for excellent leaders in our studio, supporting our design ethos and the familial culture that we encourage both within our team and with all of our clients and consultants.”
