Interior design and workplace strategy entity Futurespace has embarked upon a new era, with Angela Ferguson taking over as the company’s sole Principal and Workplace Strategy Lead.

The announcement follows Stephen Minnet moving away from the business in recent weeks. Ferguson merged her former company with Futurespace in 2009, and has been the company’s Managing and Creative Director for the last decade. Her work has seen her deliver strategies for a number of Futurespace clients, including IAG, Tourism Australia, Gadens, Arnott’s and SBS.

Future X Collective, launched in 2021 as an offshoot of Futurespace, has now been rolled into the parent brand, ensuring client support regarding their workspaces is streamlined. Ferguson says Futurespace is solely committed to remaining at the apex of workplace design.

“The workplace has seen more changes in the past three years than it did in the entire decades prior,” she says.

“While these changes have certainly settled down in the past year with more workers heading back to the office and ‘returning to normal’ - everything has now been thrown into question and we’re amid a major workplace evolution.

“I am thrilled to be a part of this evolution while leading my team and clients to embrace these changes, adapt to new trends and open up our perspectives to the fresh ways we can approach work.”

A new senior leadership team has been ushered in by Futurespace to coincide with the new era, including Senior Designer, Tully Sharp-Butler and Graduate Designer, Evan Peake. Directors Gavin Harris, Joseph Daly and Marissa Byron.

Futurespace’s recent design for Reece – The Works was the subject of critical acclaim at the Good Design Awards, taking out the Architectural Interior Design award for 2023. Spanning six storeys, the Melbourne workplace comprises a showroom on the ground floor, with the theme of hydration embraced throughout the building, evidenced via the fluid stairwell.

The wellness-conscious environment was developed pre-pandemic, but was reworked to adapt to new hybrid ways of working. Futurespace’s next major project will be undertaken for Aware Super, who are consolidating their Melbourne offices to refocus on their staff’s wellbeing. The project is due to reach completion next month.
